We are people who cycle, not just 'cyclists'
we cycle to work, to study, to see friends,
we cycle our kids to nursery, school and the park,
we cycle any type of bike in any type of clothing, in all weathers and
we cycle all year round.
We want to change the culture of cycling, from purely a fair-weather, leisure or exercise pursuit, to a year-round way of getting where you want to go, at an enjoyable pace
We are campaigning to make our streets safe to cycle on for everyone; children, adults, people with disabilities, beginners, commuters, tea drinkers and beyond
We want improvements for people who already cycle, but more importantly, improvements for people to start cycling, to make Belfast a healthier, more sustainable city to live in.
Belfast is well placed to be a cycling city, it already is for many people, with just a few changes we can make it more welcoming for thousands of people to ditch the car for many journeys.
The more you leave your house on foot or on cycle, the more likely you are to bump into people, to stop and chat, to build connection and community.
More people cycling means less cars, a quieter city, cleaner air and a more enjoyable space to live and interact
Ultimately we want things to improve for people, like us, who cycle already, but we really want to support more people to get on the saddle.
This is how we can get there:
Safety on our streets is the key to getting more people to try cycling, and the key to giving young people independence in getting to school, the park, or to meet-up with friends.
School Streets are vital for this, we need to change how children travel and give parents the confidence to let their children cycle by changing the culture of ‘school drop offs’ and pavement parking around school gates.
Sharing tips on cycling as transport; we all cycle for our day to day journeys - commuting to work, taxiing children, doing the weekly shop - we want to support more people to do the same.
Planning applications need to consider walking, wheeling and cycling at their core, not an optional add on
If you feel this represents you, or you want it to represent more people, then please sign up to be part of the campaign
